Unfortunately, South Asians have a 3-to-5-fold increase in the risk for myocardial infarction and cardiovascular death as compared with other ethnic groups. However, this is not only because of a difference in ethnicity, but due to their lifestyle including a poor dietary habit, lack of exercise, uncontrolled cardiac risk factors, and monitoring of their health status according to their age. There is another factor which was extensively ignored that could cause a recurrence of heart attacks, complication of post-cardiac condition such as cardiac arrhythmia, congestive heart failure, and sudden cardiac arrests. Most of our patients and their families have no awareness of cardiac rehabilitation that how specific exercises help to improve our heart’s health and their future life. Most of the time we don’t even know when or how we are supposed to start driving, flying, exercise involving exertion like swimming and running after a minor or major cardiac surgery including cardiac stents or open heart surgery.
We are thankful to our excellent team members who will advise voluntarily regarding those important issues.
